Who We Are

“Hebrew High at Broward Central Synagogue is more than just a place of learning; it is a vibrant, engaging Jewish community for 7th–12th graders. Guided by our mission to educate our children so they grow into knowledgeable, self-assured Jewish young adults, our program inspires teens to explore their Jewish identity, find personal meaning in tradition and build a strong connection to their community.

Through a dynamic mix of study, discussion, leadership development and hands-on experiences, Hebrew High empowers students to think critically, lead with compassion and live their Jewish values with pride. Our sessions, led by clergy and dedicated educators, are designed to be thoughtful, relevant and interactive,  helping teens grow not just in knowledge, but in confidence and purpose.

From B’nai Mitzvah preparation to confirmation, leadership training and even earning college credit, Hebrew High provides a meaningful journey that supports every stage of Jewish teen life.”

7th Grade – B’nai Mitzvah Track and Sessions With the Clergy

Sunday Mornings | 9:00am–12:00pm

Our 7th-grade program is a transformative year that bridges classroom learning with real-world action. Each week, students participate in the B’nai Mitzvah Track: Learning and Doing from 10:00am–11:00am. Through thoughtful study, they explore Jewish themes rooted in Torah, tradition and values. These lessons come to life with immersive, hands-on field trips, whether through mitzvah projects, volunteering or engaging with local Jewish organizations, helping students live their learning in meaningful ways.

An optional Hebrew class is available at 9:00am for those looking to strengthen their skills in preparation for their B’nai Mitzvah (additional fee applies).

From 11:00am–12:00pm, students join Sessions with the Clergy alongside 8th–12th graders. These powerful, interactive sessions dive into Torah, Jewish holidays and current events, offering a space for thoughtful dialogue and spiritual growth.
Teens may choose to participate in one or all of the opportunities listed above. Each option is based on the level of commitment and engagement your teen is ready for this year.

8th Grade – MIT (Madrichim in Training) Track and Sessions with the Clergy

Sunday Mornings | 8:45am–12:00pm

The MIT Track is a dynamic, two-year leadership journey, starting in 8th grade,  where 8th graders begin building the skills and confidence needed to become future Madrichim and community leaders. From 8:45am–11:00am, students engage in interactive classes and hands-on experiences designed to cultivate purposeful, empathetic leadership.

From 11:00am–12:00pm, students join Sessions with the Clergy alongside 7th–12th graders. These powerful, interactive sessions explore Torah, Jewish holidays and current events, providing a space for thoughtful dialogue and spiritual growth.

This program helps teens develop a strong foundation in leadership and Jewish identity, preparing them to lead and inspire within the community.

Teens may choose to participate in one or all of the opportunities listed above. Each option is based on the level of commitment and engagement your teen is ready for this year.

9th Grade – MIT or Madrichim Track and Sessions with the Clergy

Sunday Mornings | 8:45am–12:00pm

Students have two leadership track options based on their prior experience:

Option 1: Year 2 of MIT (Madrichim in Training)
Students continuing their second year deepen leadership skills through advanced workshops and mentoring. This year emphasizes public speaking, event planning, working with younger students and embracing leadership as a lifelong role. Year 2 MITs also begin taking light classroom responsibilities to prepare for becoming full Madrichim.

Option 2: First Year as a Madrich/a
Teens who have completed both MIT years and become Madrichim, assist in classrooms and lead activities for younger students. This hands-on role provides real leadership experience and a meaningful community impact. Monthly leadership sessions are included, and students earn community service hours.

From 11:00am–12:00pm, students join Sessions with the Clergy alongside 7th–12th graders. These interactive sessions explore Torah, Jewish holidays and current events, offering space for dialogue and spiritual growth.

College Credit Course (Wednesdays | 6:30pm–7:30pm)
JST 311: Introduction to Jewish Biblical Text: Open to 9th–12th Grade students interested in earning college credit while deepening their Jewish learning.

Teens may choose to participate in one or all of the opportunities listed above. Each option is based on the level of commitment and engagement your teen is ready for this year.

10th Grade – Madrichim Track and Sessions with the Clergy and  Confirmation Classes

Sunday Mornings | 8:45am–12:00pm

Teens who have completed both years of MIT and become Madrichim, assist in classrooms and lead activities for younger students. This hands-on role provides real leadership experience and a meaningful impact on our community. Monthly leadership sessions are included, and students earn community service hours.

Sessions with the Clergy (Every Other Sunday | 11:00am–12:00pm)
Students join clergy and fellow 7th–12th graders for powerful, interactive sessions focused on Torah, Jewish holidays and current events.

Confirmation Classes (Every Other Sunday | 11:00am–12:00pm)
Confirmation is a 13-session journey with Rabbi Uri where students affirm their connection to Jewish tradition, values and community. Through study, debate and reflection, students engage with core Jewish texts and explore what it means to live as a Jew in the modern world. The year culminates in a meaningful Confirmation Ceremony during Shavuot.

College Credit Course (Wednesdays | 6:30pm–7:30pm)
JST 311: Introduction to Jewish Biblical Texts: Open to 9th–12th Grade students interested in earning college credit while deepening their Jewish learning.

11th and 12th Grade – Madrichim Leadership and Sessions with the Clergy 

Sunday Mornings | 8:45am–12:00pm

Our 11th and 12th graders serve as senior Madrichim, taking on greater responsibility in classrooms and youth programs. As mentors and role models for younger students, they help lead activities, support teachers and represent teen leadership within the community. Monthly leadership sessions are included, and students continue to earn community service hours for their work.

 Sessions with the Clergy (Every Other Sunday | 11:00am–12:00pm)
Together with 7th–12th graders, teens engage in interactive, thought-provoking sessions with our clergy. Topics include Torah, Jewish holidays, current events and issues relevant to Jewish life today.

College Credit Course (Wednesdays | 6:30pm–7:30pm)
JST 311: Introduction to Jewish Biblical Texts: Open to 9th–12th Grade students interested in earning college credit while exploring Jewish text and tradition on a deeper level.

Teens may choose to participate in one or all of the opportunities listed above. Each option is based on the level of commitment and engagement your teen is ready for this year.
