Cantor Mark Goldman is a descendant of generations of Cantors. Born in London, England, he pursued Cantorial studies as well as a B.A. (honors) degree in Judaic Studies at the London School of Jewish Studies. He is the youngest ever recipient of certification by the Chief Rabbi of The United Kingdom.

In a desire to further his professional goals, Cantor Mark Goldman accepted a call to Temple Beth El in Rochester, N.Y. In addition to his cantorial responsibilities, Mark attended the internationally acclaimed Eastman School of Music where he gained a Master of Music Degree in Performance and Literature.

Mark has many diverse and impressive skills. He was chosen as one of 20 cantors to perform a concert of Jewish music at the Vatican. He has professionally produced a series of three albums for our congregation, and performed in concerts throughout the world. He recently served as the national president of the American Conference of Cantors (www.accantors.org).

Over and above these accomplishments, Mark is happiest when he is bringing the love and joy of modern Judaism to the children and adults of our community. He is active in our early childhood center, prepares B’nai Mitzvah students and participates in our Gesher and Religious School programming. In the evenings, he teaches confirmation, adult education, leads our choir, and participates in numerous Temple committees. A hallmark of Cantor Goldman’s reputation is to be in touch with many members of our congregation each and every day. In person, email, text or zoom.

“Over the past three decades I have learnt that there is nothing more important than being there for our Temple community. Not just the challenging times and s’machot but also just to check in, say hi and connect”.

As co-senior clergy, Mark is intimately involved in congregational strategic planning and visioning, as well as marketing, membership, tikkun olam, continuing education and fundraising.
